Some Ways to Become Involved

The backbone of our school community rests largely on its volunteers. The Board’s expectation is that all families volunteer 25 hours per school year. It is difficult to imagine that the school would run smoothly without this essential service. There are numerous capacities in which help is appreciated, from chaperoning class trips to monthly school hot lunches, and from helping out in the library to serving with the Willing Workers at various functions.

The following are some of the many opportunities available:

Willing Workers
This group consists of volunteers who raise funds through catering functions, such as dinners for weddings and anniversaries, hot lunches to students, etc.
Bazaar
This is one of our biggest and most exciting fund-raisers. Every November, the school society prepares for and participates in this all-day event, enjoying lunch or dinner, snacks, goodies, toys, clothes, games, live and silent auctions and much, much more. Many hands make light work!
Springfest
Another great fund-raiser happens every May in the heart of Dundas. All day long, everyone enjoys the festivities. There is everything your garden would need, as well as a lot of crafts and clothes, a silent auction, and of course, lots of food! Bring your talents to this fun event.
Library
Our library is equipped with a large variety of reading books as well as research material for the students. The library is staffed by volunteers every afternoon. If this activity appeals to you, feel free to come in and observe students in the library.
Tutors
Each year there are opportunities to tutor students with special needs or to teach small groups of students how to use the computer effectively. We welcome volunteers who are willing to offer their special skills.
Committees
The school has many committees you can be involved with. There is sure to be one to match your interests.
Yard Duty
Volunteers are required each school day to help with playground supervision during the lunch hour recess.
Winter Enrichments
For five Friday afternoons in January and February, students in Grades 4 - 8 participate in a chosen enrichment activity. Past activities have included cooking, knitting, photography, hockey, scrap booking, pottery, paper toll, and babysitting. If you have a gift you’d like to share, this is a great opportunity to do so.
